I get tired of rotating regular crackers, so I'm thinking of purchasing crackers from either Emergency Essentials or MREDepot.
Pilot Crackers @ EE http://beprepared.com/product.asp_Q_pn_E_FN%20A250_A_name_E_Mountain%20H ouseŽ%20Pilot%20Crackers
Assorted Crackers @ MREDepot http://www.mredepot.com/servlet/Categories
Wow - MREDepot has quite an assortment. Anywhere from animal crackers to wheat thins to mini oyster crackers.
In fact...I just found their cat & dog food in #10 cans. Who knew?
Anyone buy crackers in #10 cans?

I don't have experience with Emergency Essentials (having never ordered from them) but I can tell you that my experience with MREDepot is that they are first rate. They have responsive customer service, they almost always ship the same business day as receiving an order, and they have quality product.

I'm hoping they're like water crackers, but thicker.
Maybe we should start with the mini oyster crackers - at least we can soak them in soup if they're too hard! :smilielol5:

I was hoping that someone was going to have a way to store matzo crackers for long term.

Wow - I didn't realize they stored this long!
Matzo, a jewish type of cracker, is enjoyed mostly during Passover in the Jewish religion. Its shelf life is of about 2. 5 years but can be easily brought back to life by reheating it in the oven at 250 for about 5 minutes if and when it does get stale.
Huh...I wonder if putting them in the oven really does help when they get stale.
I may have to experiment with this.:hurray:

Does anyone remember Civil Defense Crackers? They kind of store for 30 years.
When we first moved to this ward one lady, who is now our resident expert in home preparedness of all kinds, was just getting started in food storage. She shared with the whole ward in kind of a group buy of her latest find. We all fell for it and bought without trying first. She delivered 10 gallon buckets painted army green with dry, hard crackers in them. They tasted something like glue mixed with sawdust. Apparently they had been or were like those stored in caves near here by the government as civil defense rations during the cold war -thirty years before - and the good government decided it was OK now to empty the caves and share with all of us. My kids did eat them at the end of the month when food was getting low when we first started our business. (Only for snack while I went to the grocery store!)

I did my own saltine crackers a few years ago. I used the dry ice method. Unfortunately I was not aware of the gasket lid needed and they were rather stale when I opened them. I have not tried again, though I intend to one of these days. I will either do the dry ice again with a gasket lid, or I may mylar bag them.

Use mylar as the plastic bucket will "breathe" with or without the gasket.
