The great thing about geodesic dome tents is their incredible strength. These tents get their name from the design of the frame structure. The frame members are designed to intersect at points that create strong geometric shapes between the frame members. When interconnected in this way, and shaped into a dome, the structure can support loads far greater than other designs. This makes geodesic dome tent frames very rugged and durable for use in harsh elements, provided they are anchored properly and the shell material is suitable.
A great by-product of this frame design is the internal space. Geodesic dome tents are very roomy on the inside, and the intricate framework creates many places from which to hang things. Some geodesics are made to also handle wood burning stoves, or even insulation panels for greater warmth in the winter.
An obvious drawback is that with such a frame design comes many frame members, and large tents mean bulky and heavy storage and transport. Still, these are great tents and should be taken into consideration, as the design itself is capable of lasting for long periods of exposure to the elements, provided that the manufacturing materials are also suited to the task.
These tents can be had for anywhere between $1100 - $3000 depending on manufacturer, size and options.
