A month ago I went to grind some of the wheat I had purchased months earlier. Got out my grain grinder attachment to the Bosch, read the directions again and loaded the hopper, turned it on and . . . zilch, nada, nothing.

I had used it twice before, so it had worked. Took a walk outside, twice around the house to vent the frustration and anger.

Turned the parts over to Hubby to research online to see if it can be fixed, then sent emails to the RS sisters for help.

After researching all of the mills that are available, Hubby helped tremendously here - he is a pro at internet research!- we bought a Wonder Mill. It came a week after we ordered (such fast service from EE) and has been sitting on my dining room table ever since.

Finally I have decided to bake several batches of bread. Our finances are low and we have one loaf of bread left and NO flour tortillas (am going to give it a shot trying to make them). Rather than spend baking day grinding wheat and then making bread, I am was going to grind the wheat first, then the next day do the bread.

Ground 2 cups of rice first to "clean" the mill. Then I ground 2 cups of wheat and then I ground 4 cups of the Great Northern beans that have been sitting in my cupboard for the last 8 years.

As I was looking in the cupboards for more grains or beans to grind I discovered that I have three large containers full of flour ~ Dark Rye, Whole Wheat and Unbleached Enriched All Purpose flour.

Guess I need to use those flours up first before I start grinding wheat into flour. But, Boy Howdy do I like the Wonder Mill! For me it is noisy- forgot to take the hearing aids out. Won't forget the next time. FWIW vacuuming, running the weed wacker, lawn mower make a constant noise that will use up the battery in the hearing aid. Husband thought I was vacuuming the hall way and bedrooms and that I had a new quieter vacuum.:l0 (51):

I have a large container of lentils- can't wait to grind them into flour next.

Do you mean that cup that goes inside where you pour the grain so you can grind the tiny stuff? Then no, not yet.

Even though it is only under $25.00 (including shipping) we ran out of money :sadley: We are eating from our storage, other than the fresh salad items from the store every 3rd day.

Hubby forgot that he already paid the two credit cards and paid them again!! He refuses to turn that portion of the bill paying over to me -

The biggest bummer is that the credit card companies won't put the extra payments ahead for next month.

Until the end of July I will be making our bread and even trying my hand at making crackers. With bread at $3.00 a loaf (averaging) at the store and then costing us only a fraction of that to make from scratch - well it is just toopid not to be making it.

I  my Bosch mixer and attachments too. Even though the grain attachment broke :cuss: and from what we can figure out it is not fixable :cuss::cuss:, the rest of the attachments and the mixer itself is great.

Okay, that said, does anyone here make their own pasta? If so, what appliance, attachment, ?? do you use? We pretty much do NOT use macaroni, as in elbow, any more. I got tired of chasing them all over the plate and I am not so feeble yet to be eating with just a spoon.

My Mom made her own noodles - fresh every time and never dried them. She never used a bowl either. Just the table top! Oh, for a kid that was just too much fun when she let me help her. I loved it when she rolled the dough out, then rolled it into a long log, then let me cut off the noodles - trusting me with the pasta knife- haven't a clue what it is really called but it is the long, flat tipped utensil that comes in those cooking utensil sets. note:looked it up on eBay, it is the long spatula/spreader.

I want to start making my own spaghetti and anything else that I can.

A while back, I cracked the whip "snap" and said.... WOMAN!!!! You're going to have to start making all sorts of breads from scratch so you can learn how to do this - so there is no possibility of us starving in the future. And she did, 'that whip must of hurt'. She now makes all kinds of breads, and yes, even noodles, especially for chicken noodle soup (yum). I'm completely amazed at what my wife can do now, and the breads taste so much better than what is purchased in the store.

You're going to love making it all from scratch- i'm sure your husband and kids will as well.

I must say, I love grinding wheat. I can watch that all day. You pour in the hard wheat, and out comes soft flower - it's simply amazing!!

You cracked the whip? Um, okay.

I have been making bread for a dozen years. Yes Husband loves my bread. When I made multi grain bread, I used a small electric coffee grinder to grind the other grains. What a pain!

First husband hated home made noodles- he also hated home made bread, he much preferred Wonder Bread. My family calls that bread Balloon Bread!

Have no children, so it is all for me and 2nd husband. Oh, I give a loaf or three to the neighbor next door who mows our postage stamp yard, and to the LDS family at the end of the street because I want to.

It has been easier to just buy the pasta- but now I want to eat cheaper and making it from scratch is cheaper.
