weight question

I have some storage containers that have markings on them in litres and quarts, they are foodsafe so I am using them for rice, salt, sugar etc. How can I figure out the conversion to pounds?

Found this on a discussion forum, but can't say how accurate it is. I think you need to find a "math person" to solve this one!

1 kg = 2.2 lbs
1 liter = 2.2 lbs
1 liter = about .25 gallons
1 gallon = 8 lbs


so 16 liters is 35.2 lbs

It really depends on what you're storing in them. I've found 5 gal buckets usually hold about 40lb rice or wheat, about 55-60 lbs sugar, 25 lbs of beans. You get the idea--we're talking volume (liters/gallons) vs weight (gr/kg/lbs) and there's no straight across conversion for that.
