Here is what we did for our display... In a slightly less organized manner, imagine an 8 foot long poster, 3 feet high with each big title at the top. This was in '06 and repeated in '07, so prices have since changed.

Food Storage

Cost

Facts:
* One year of basic food storage costs about $440 per adult.
* For $73/month for 12 months you can have basic food storage for two adults

Strategies:
* Plan
* Budget
* Purchase month to month
* Sacrifice - even small sacrifices will yield great results

Space

Facts:
* You can fit a year's supply of food for four adults into a 5x5x5 area (125 cubic feet).
* Freeze-dried, 20 cubic feet.

Strategies:
* Purchase a 5x5 storage unit for around $30/month,. Consider it part of your rent or mortgage.
* Be creative; it can fit in nooks and crannies and under the bed and in the closet.
* Freeze-dried is very compact.

Going Bad

facts:
* Many of the best foods have 20+ year shelf life (whole grains, wheat, sugar, some freeze-dried).
* Some foods have less than 2 years of shelf life.

Strategies:
* Rotate
* Maintain a dated inventory
* Be aware of the shelf life of the product. [cannery list with shelf life]

Using

facts:
* There's nothing like good home cooking.
* Whole grains and beans and other storage foods are exceptionally healthy foods that should already be part of your diet.
* A wheat grinder and can openers are necessities.

Strategies:
* Purchase what you like to eat.
* Learn how to cook with food storage.
* Just experiment occasionally - you don't have to learn to do it all at once.
* Purchase a good, sturdy hand grinder for now. They're not too expensive.
* Buy more than one can opener.
