I remember reading a few months ago about the dangers of deodorants on the market today. I've found a few places where people make their own deodorants but they mentioned that they were not antipirspirants. They also stated that some of the recipes would need to be refrigerated and I'm not interested in any that need to be refrigerated. I also read a thread here from i think 2009 where someone mentioned crystalux. Does anyone know of tried and true deodorants that they are happy with? It would be nice to have have an antipirspirant also. We live in the South and it can get warm here and we sweat a lot.

Thank you

I don't use either. They give me a rash.

I've used Mennen and Old Spice over the years. Currently I use Old Spice (Matterhorn).

my wife bought a "crystal" type deodorant, brand name: "Naturally Fresh". The idea with the crystal deodorants is that you avoid the aluminum that is in regular antiperspirants, but most of the crystal types use ammonium alum which is an aluminum but is supposedly too large to be absorbed by the skin, but i dont know if that is true. Here's a link to an article about it:http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2010/02/16/aluminum-lurks-in-crystal-deodorants.aspx
I use Mitchum...chock full of aluminum but I bet I smell better than Cowboy:rofl:
Of course we should never drink from an aluminum can, especially something acidic like Coke or Pepsi.

I and my husband have used alternative/crystal deodorants for years. I switched back to the regular unscented types, but he is happy using the crystal - large, get it wet and rub on- you can always give it a try and it lasts forever.....

Secret Platinum soft solid (powder fresh, smells like baby powder). It keeps me dry and scent free for 3-4 days. It has to be the Powder Fresh scent, though. My wife got me the wrong one once and it was bad. Very, very bad.

The problem is you can't really smell yourself. So how do you know it lasts for days?

My wife would inform me. My friends would definitely inform me. They aren't the touchy feely sort. They're more the mercilessly mock any perceived weakness sort.

I have used Crystal Deodorant mist from Nature Rich is excellent. It isn't an antiperspirant, but then again, forcing the body to not be able to perspire isn't a good thing.
