Section 45
31 And there shall be men standing in that generation, that shall not pass until they shall see an overflowing scourge; for a desolating sickness shall cover the land.
Section 97 22 For behold, and lo, vengeance cometh speedily upon the ungodly as the whirlwind; and who shall escape it? 23 The Lord’s scourge shall pass over by night and by day, and the report thereof shall vex all people; yea, it shall not be stayed until the Lord come; Section 5 19 For a desolating scourge shall go forth among the inhabitants of the earth, and shall continue to be poured out from time to time, if they repent not, until the earth is empty, and the inhabitants thereof are consumed away and utterly destroyed by the brightness of my coming.

I am not sure that the desolating scourge is any one disease. I tend to think of it as a series of different illnesses strung together.

I agree ghostcat. And the words above seem to define this scourge as a sickness. It could be a sickness of mind and body.

I see it as a cause and effect situation. When people continue to expose themselves to pornography, for instance, their values, perceptions (how they look at other people) and their minds are changed into carnal, devilish and sensuous and begin to loose their desire for that which is good, wholesome, and praiseworthy in the eyes of God. People who act out these devilish fantasies become immoral and then become amoral, capable of committing atrocities against their fellow man. They quickly ripen in iniquity and the judgments of God are poured out through Ebola and other scourging events predicted in the scriptures. Christ spoke to the Nephites in their total darkness and told them that He would have gathered them in as a hen gathereth her chicks under her wings but they would not. We now have the opportunity to gather to the prophets and hearken unto the voice of the Lord through His servants for instructions that are designed for our protection against such things as the overflowing scourges that are surely to come. May we all heed the forthcoming counsel, for our very lives (both physically and spiritually) will very well depend upon it.
