Canning for Our 4 Legged Friends

Beef heart is extremely nutritious and about ~ $1.39 a pound now. This is the best food I can store for the canines. I just canned up 300# of it for the cats and dogs, all of whom have an essential job. Leave a generous inch+ headspace. Beef heart has a lot of fat, which may be hard to come by anyway and is great for the dog's health so plan for it when you can the the meat.

Don't forget to put up food for them. In a pinch we can usually trap 75-90 raccoons a year after the poultry. Very icky but could be dog food.

Thanks for the post. I really haven't worried about my 4 legged children in family the emergency plans, but this really got me thinking.

At our last stake preparedness fair the main "booth" was a veterinarian telling us to store food in our 72 hour kits for our pets. They don't talk about storing for actual people around here.
