If anyone can help I would appreciate it. I remember reading a post somewhere about a local company in Salt Lake City that makes plastic products such as 5 or 6 gallon buckets. Does anyone have any information on the companies location or a place to get "cheaper" buckets? Thanks in advance.

The place in SLC that makes buckets is Industrial Container:

But for a cheaper route, try getting used buckets from local businesses. Bakeries are an excellent source (including grocery store bakeries or Great Harvest stores). Call around and I think you'll be surprised how many sell their used buckets for cheap.

They also have a lot at Macey's and you can check under the Food Storage category of the classifieds on ksl.com

Checked out Macey's weekly flyer but no food storage items. Is their sale still going on?

If you are in Southern Utah there is a source for second hand containers (off color) that are quite a bit cheaper. You must buy in bulk though. Steve at Nampac 435-865-1992

You can also get used buckets from restaurants, sometimes for free.

I can order 5 gal buckets in bulk. They are air tight and have a gasket. I can get them for about $12 for a lid and bucket. I have to order at least a pallet (144) of buckets. Have to pay up front. But they are really good buckets.

Payson Fruit Growers sells used square 4 gallon buckets, mostly pre-washed for 50 cents each, including lid. We've gotten hundreds of these and are real happy with them. Being square, they store wlith a minimum of wasted space and when full of heavy grains, are lighter for a smaller person to carry than a larger 5 or 6 gallon. Their number is 465-9242.

Do these lids have the gaskets in them?

Nope. No gaskets. We went online and found a source for 4-5 gallon food-grade plastic bags and used them for liners (with twist ties) in these buckets. We have not added the oxy-packs since we do not expect the buckets to be perfectly air tight, even with the plastic bag liners. But at least we've got bug and moisture protection at a price we could afford. BTW, you can get at least 15 rolls of toilet paper in one of these buckets. That makes pretty cheap water-resistant paper storage.
