Holy cow! I think I just made the best-tasting jam I've ever had in my LIFE!! It's from those Mirabelle Plums I was talking about on the Saving Pits thread. Here's the recipe. Cuz I'm just a sharing kind of person that way.:a0 (21): Plus you won't bug me for a jar of mine. :d0 (14):

Spiced Golden Plum Jam

Pit and halve about 3 and 1/2 pounds of golden plums.

Put the plums and 1/2 C. apple juice and a scant teaspoon each of cinnamon and cardamom in a pot and bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring often. Gently boil, partially covered, for 5 or so min. (You can put a cinnamon stick and 4-6 cardamom pods in cheesecloth if you'd rather do it that way.)

Remove from heat and measure out 4 and 1/2 C. of plums back into the pot. Add 6 and 2/3 C. sugar and bring to a hard, rolling boil that cannot be stirred down. Add one pouch liquid pectin and boil for one minute. (That's one verse of Come, Come Ye Saints - not too fast)

Remove from heat and skim off foam.

Ladle into jars - about 8 or 9 1/2pints and process for 15 min.

Holy cow, people. It's better than chocolate. Maybe even percocet.

What gives me away?

Oh, and I'll bring the Mirabelle Plum trees to the New Jerusalem. Cuz, you know, they are so totally terrestrial.

Okay, yo. Maybe they aren't Mirabelle Plums. Maybe they actually are Potawatomi Plums. I just don't know. Anyone REALLY know what a Potawatomi Plum is? A physical description, please.

Potawatomis were in the pioneer settlement of Fruita, I know. Some say they came from Michigan and some say from Florida.

Maybe Jay could ask one of the GA's and get some reliable information...??

I need color (yellow? red? purple?) shape (round? oblong? egg-ish?) size (golfball? egg?) Thanks anyone!
