//02 Dec 2009 A man, aged 23, died from bird flu on November 28 in Sam Mun commune, northern Dien Bien province, the Vietnamese Ministry of Health has announced.
On November 18, the man became ill with a high fever, coughing fits and breathing problems after eating duck blood pudding. He was admitted to the provincial Dien Bien General Hospital one week later and died from pneumonia.
This was the first fatality due to highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in Dien Bien since the province announced the break out in the Noong Luong and Thanh Yen communes on October 21.
So far this year, Vietnam reported five cases of A/H5N1 which all died.
